I have purchased National Geographic subscriptions for myself as well as gifts. This is the best magazine, and everyone knows the name, and the quality that comes with the name. In all cases the prices have been far less than elsewhere - sometimes by as much as 100%. Before I came to the US, I only read one magazines from this country: National Geographic Magazine. I still remember reading one issue of National Geographic on Sahara Dessert years ago when I was still a college student. The American professor who lent me National Geographic has passed away, but the visual images I got from his magazine were so powerful that I could still see them now in my mind. Now that I am in this country, I want to have own National Geographic.
